I don’t know where to start with this blog post. I guess I can begin with I have known Rush for many years we first met each other in the Navy when we were stationed together in Beaufort SC at MALS-31. When we first met in a Navy leadership class we were more like oil and water than the best of friends. Shortly after our leadership class we deployed together on the USS Enterprise. My job as an Avionics Tech the shop I was in I oversaw the POTS Line (Plain Old Telephone). If you or anyone you know was ever in the Navy you would know how important this POTS system was, because when you got to use it you could make a phone call home from anywhere in the world and it’s like making a local call. Anyways Rush as an Aviation Ordie had access to a washer and dryer in his shop. Which is way better than ever using the ships laundry. Needless to say, Rush and I became better friends and liberty buddies and explored many port of calls together.

After that deployment, I transferred to VA Beach and Rush went on to Great Lakes. Years later thank you to FaceBook I could reconnect with Rush while I was still active duty. The sad part was he was transferring to Washington State with his lovely new wife Renee, and I was getting out of the Navy and took a job in Rhode Island. About a year or so later I got a surprising message from Rush that his family got orders and guess where too? That’s right Newport Rhode Island to be an instructor. Long story short I was thrilled because living in New England with not knowing anyone besides my wife and kids got a little lonely.

When the Warthen’s moved to Rhode Island the times we got to spend together were awesome. All our kids got along great. We shared some awesome memories, like a cook out where Broody rolled around in something nasty and my son stepped in dog poo and tracked it all over the house. Rush and I went on a day fishing trip which I out fished him. I think the best memory though and I will forever be grateful for is Rush let me come and volunteer with the other Navy instructors at Gillette Stadium during football season. Yeah, we worked in concessions but it didn’t matter to me. I felt like I was back a part of the Navy team. Another great memory that my wife and I will forever remember was when we got married in Asheville NC, Rush and Renee traveled all the way down from Rhode Island to celebrate the day with us.

Shortly after I got married I decided to leave Rhode Island and we moved back to Virginia, it was a short separation again, but I knew the Navy would be sending the Warthens back to Virginia as well. I am so happy for them they found their forever house and Rush only has a brief time left in the Navy before he gets to retire. I am so honored that I could take family photos for them. The kids are so adorable and awesome. Renee is the sweetest person and will go all out to make you feel loved and welcomed in their home. She has a pretty good decorating eye to much better than I could do.

I am so excited to share some of these photos from a little family portrait session we did in August. Thank you Rush and Renee for being so awesome.
